There is no set timeline for couples therapy. Every relationship is different, and the length of therapy depends on what brings you in, how long the patterns have been in place, and what you hope to accomplish together.
Some couples come to therapy with a specific issue and find meaningful change within a few months. Others choose to work together for a longer period of time to address deeper patterns, rebuild trust after infidelity, strengthen emotional and sexual intimacy, or create a more secure and connected relationship.
In Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), we focus not only on resolving the problem that brought you through the door, but on understanding the underlying patterns that keep you stuck and creating new ways of relating to one another.
Our goal is not to keep you in therapy indefinitely. It is to help you develop the insight, emotional connection, and tools to navigate your relationship with greater confidence and security—both during therapy and long after it ends.
During your initial sessions, we will talk together about your goals and develop a treatment plan that feels appropriate for your relationship.

Yes. Infidelity can profoundly disrupt a relationship, leaving both partners feeling hurt, angry, confused, disconnected, or uncertain about what comes next. Couples therapy can provide a space to slow down, understand what happened, and begin making sense of the impact together.
We work with couples navigating both recent discoveries of infidelity and the longer-term aftermath of an affair. Our approach is not about assigning blame or rushing a couple toward a particular decision about the relationship. Instead, we help partners understand the patterns and vulnerabilities within the relationship, process the injury, rebuild emotional safety, and determine what is needed to move forward.
For couples who choose to remain together, therapy can help rebuild trust, restore emotional and sexual intimacy, and create a stronger foundation for the future. For couples who are uncertain about whether they want to continue their relationship, therapy can also provide a thoughtful and supported space to explore that question.
If your relationship has been impacted by infidelity, you don't have to know what comes next before reaching out. Therapy can help you begin to understand what happened and find a path forward.

Yes. There are times when one partner may begin therapy individually, particularly when their partner is hesitant or not yet ready to participate.
Starting alone can be a helpful way to gain clarity, better understand your own emotions and relationship patterns, and explore how you want to move forward. It can also create a foundation for eventually bringing your partner into the work, if and when that feels appropriate.
If you are hoping to work on your relationship but your partner isn't ready to come, you don't necessarily have to wait. We can talk about your situation and determine what type of support would be most appropriate.
